To check lamps without using a starter, follow steps as outuned under heading, TEST LAMPS.» To check lamps with starter in the circuit, follow s eps 1 to 3 inclusive under heaai,, «TO TEST LAMPS.» Insert pre-tested starter of the correct type and hold line switch only in «ON» position. The lamp, if good, should light brightly in a few seconds. In checking used lamps, particularly those which have darkened ends, it is advisable to first st lamp without use of starter (as outlined onster); if-lamp lights dimly or not at all discard immediately. If the lamp lights brightly and is apparently good, insert a pre-tested starter of the correct type and hold line switch only in «ON» position. When lamp has started hold line switch «on» for about one minute. If lame blinks on and off during this period, discard it. If lamp burns steadily, it is acceptable for further service. The COMPCO tester will check starters without using a fluorescent lamp or under actual operating conditions with lamp in the circuit.
