The development process dates back to May 2019. Boris joined EQD president and developer Jamie Stillman’s band Relaxer on a 5-city EQD live tour in Japan that year. While on tour, Boris guitarist Wata’s heavy, sustained and unique sound inspired Jamie, and EQD began planning to develop a signature fuzz for Wata. Wata had been using vintage Japanese fuzz for years, and Jamie owned several of the same effect pedals, but the individual effect pedals of the 70’s varied greatly, and the prototype she created sounded far different from Wata’s. Wata’s prototype was a «vintage fuzz», and Jamie’s was a «vintage fuzz». The fuzz she owned was different from the ones we have examined so far: it had a big, enveloping bass, but it also had a raspy mid-high with an edge and a strong sustain. And now EQD’s Hizumitas faithfully reproduces that sound. The Hizumitas is not only a reproduction of Wata’s effects pedal, but it also has a powerful output level and a great Tone.
